END Procrastination for Good
4 Steps to Reprogram Your Mind
I can bet you don’t know this technique for beating procrastination because this isn’t about having “more discipline” or becoming “more focused” or even battling the never ending distractions ..
This is something I use with my clients in session that pay thousands to work with me.
So I am super excited to share this with you today and here is what you need to know:
Simply put, procrastination is the brain’s way of gifting you SELF SABOTAGE.
You may be thinking …
That you are lazy
That you “lack drive”
That it’s too hard
That it will take too long
All those “excuses” that you justify to yourself that keep you ultimately stuck.
The truth is that you are just scared
And these thoughts serve a purpose
“TO PROTECT YOU”
To keep you from the big scary monster in the closet
Rejection
Failure
Ultimately Pain
This is why you stop before you start.
Procrastination is you (subconsciously) practicing avoidance
So here is how you stop avoiding and start winning for good:
STEP 1: Understanding what happens if you DON’T DO IT
The answer is usually nothing
I repeat NOTHING
The feeling of being “STUCK” is extremely frustrating because you know you are capable of so much more and you know what is available if you just got “UNSTUCK”.
You must take ownership to understand why you are choosing to be here. (Yes, it is a choice).
Step 2: Understand your mindset blocks
Identify your limiting beliefs.
AKA what stories are you are telling yourself that literally cause you to choose to be unproductive.
It’s too hard
You aren’t capable
Others are doing it better
You are stupid and lazy
These are learned beliefs from childhood, that need to be reprogrammed.
If a part of you believe these things, you will continue to hold yourself back to CONFIRM this identity. Our brains love confirmation bias.
Remember, you brain is ULTRA smart. It’s unlikely you will outsmart it.
So this keeps you in cycles of being disempowered aka continuing to procrastinate, keeping you from your epic goals.
To be able to make a new empowered choice, you have to actively become aware of the old subconscious (disempowered) choice you are making.
Step 3: Neutralize the consequences
As mentioned, procrastination is simply avoidance.
Now get clear on the (negative) outcomes are you avoiding
List them all out.
Common ones are:
Fear of failure
Avoiding conflict, communications, people being “mad at you”
Fear of being judged, that your ideas are stupid, that people will “talk about you”
Fear you are not capable or good enough
Fear of being left, being alone
Reminder: we avoid (procrastinate) because we believe pain and consequence is waiting for us. But the BIG question you need to ask yourself is how do you know this is going to happen?
THE TRUTH IS YOU DON’T
Stop trying to predict the future.
Additionally, what is the worst that is going to happen? Will you survive? Are you going to be okay?
Or is it a zombie apocalypse at your door?
The point is that your mind will catastrophize and hijack your amygdala so you are sent into a death spiral that often leads to paralysis.
You are again stopping yourself, over something that has not yet happened and is NOT ACTIVELY REAL.
So is this actually a problem?
There is no problem. Not unless you make it one. Your choice.
Step 4: Map out the potential benefits
Now that you realize the monster in the closet isn’t so scary.
You can begin to reframe your situation ..
KEY QUESTION: WHAT IF IT DOES WORK?
Map out all the potential benefits that could happen
This is the playing field we have to work in
Focus on the potential outcome of the new reality you want to create because this is the only way it’s going to happen
Regardless of it is works out or not, you can only find out if you try.
And remember, we only move forward if we believe that our future holds pleasure, success and benefit.
You must train your mind to take action like this consistently.
This is what defines unreasonable success.
In Summary:
Remember: you aren’t lazy
Procrastination is just maladaptive mindset loops.
Your subconscious mind is just protecting you from failing
Making up lies. Literally these problems don’t actually exist!
But you have to choose empowerment over victimhood. Potentiality vs Limitations.
To get to unbelievable levels of success, you must unlearn your old patterns of rejection and failure and rewire your mind for empowerment, so you can win.
