Reprogram Your Mind: Burnout Edition
2 Subconscious Blocks that Perpetuate Burnout
You are likely overdoing it all the time, stressing 24/7.
The persistent feeling like you cannot take the gas off the pedal.
The most challenging aspect of this is that you believe it's necessary.
As if there is no other option available.
I am here to tell you that there is.
The truth is that your burnout perpetuates as a result of “being motivated by limiting beliefs rooted in fear” that lead to the classic culprits of:
anxiety
overwhelm
overthinking
procrastination
negative thinking
The perfect recipe for misery, exhaustion and unsustainable success.

So here are the 2 PREVAILING SUBCONSCIOUS VILLAINS you must reprogram to overcome burnout for good.
VILLAIN #1: YOU QUESTION YOUR VALUE (LOW SELF WORTH)
This won’t go away even when you make more money.
As evidence, this plagues even my multi-millionaire clients.
This is the classic imposter syndrome aka a deeply rooted self worth problem that many struggle with.
So how does this lead to burnout?
You find yourself overworking (OVERCOMPENSATING) because deep down, you feel you have to prove yourself to others that you:
Are good enough?
Should you be paid this much?
Are delivering the value or exceeding it?
Do people see and feel the value?
Are you working as hard as your employees that make less than you? Will they respect you?
You question it, all the time.
Deep down, your worth and confidence lay in your achievements because you are (incorrectly) programmed to seek validation.
Without the praise, money & success, you are a worthless, weak, stupid loser (subconsciously).
These insecurities are what creates the cyclical pattern of doubt leading to overthinking, worrying and procrastination & other self sabotaging behaviours that have cost my clients big contracts (worth hundreds of thousands, even millions).
So the subconscious behaviour is that you push yourself to the limit because you "need" to overcompensate for your insecurities.
Welcome to Burnout.
Key Questions for Reprogramming:
What insecurities (limiting beliefs) do you have about your value?
Who do you need to “prove” yourself to? By proving yourself, what will you “receive” (*there is always a perceived benefit to maladaptive behaviors)
How are you overcompensating? Some examples include:
Lack of boundaries (don’t know how to say no)
Not speaking up or standing up for yourself, so “you don’t upset people”
Overworking (obviously) because you wear it as a badge of honour
What is the benefit of overcompensating?
You will be valued and praised
You will be liked
You want "respect & recognition”
You will become “invaluable”
You deserve the promotion, success, money
How is this consequence of not working yourself into the ground?
Everything will dry up
You will lose respect
You will look lazy
You don’t deserve it
Here are just some examples to get you started. To begin to reprogram your mind, you need to become aware of what is “driving” your behaviour (subconsciously).
Take inventory of these beliefs and observe if they are driven by fear vs empowerment.
VILLIAN #2: SCARCITY
Growing up, you may have witnessed or heard the following:
Struggling parents, working multiple jobs trying to make ends meet
Told you have to work really hard to make a lot of money
Told that you must “earn it”, that things don’t come easy, don’t be lazy
Heard if it comes easy, it’s probably too good to be true, a scam, or that your luck will run out …
So you baseline mode is struggle and hardship which may look now:
Fear that if you stop, it won’t work.
Feeling like you “never have enough time”, its a race against the clock
Feeling guilty when resting
Fear when you are not working
Struggling to delegate because you don’t trust people to get it done
In summary, you you believe you have to struggle, wearing it like a badge of honour because if you “stop” you will likely lose it all.
Again, this is not in fact true but a belief you strongly hold which dictate your behavior.
You are literally in survival mode. So again, you work yourself into the ground
Reprogramming Exercises for Scarcity Related Burnout
Debunk limiting beliefs:
Take inventory of the stories you heard growing up from primary caregivers regarding work/struggle/money
For example, you have to work hard, endless hours, first one in last one out… but if this was true, people with 3 minimum wage jobs, in theory should be the richest. Isn’t that right?
Find 10-20 examples of where people work less but make more
Find 10-20 examples of successful people that promote deep work (working 4 hours a day)
Start to reprogram and show your mind another possibility, create a case with new evidence to start changing your model of your perceived world.
Which will allow you shift your behaviour away from this destructive cycle.
In summary, both of these programs not only stunt grow but ultimately create a plateau/upper limit.
This not only is terrible for your mental & physical health but it is not sustainable for long term success.
Remember, your brain’s capacity is extremely limited. When most of it’s bandwidth is taken up by “survival states” the amount of capacity left for performance is extremely limited.
So by reprogramming survival states (aka eliminating them) you access so much more capacity to reach your next level.
The delta of each move you make in these “elevated states” are that much bigger, impactful, closing the gap faster to your next level.
So to tie it all together, burnout isn't merely the result of 'working hard.'
It's about pushing yourself to the brink to prove your worth, gain approval, or out of fear that you might lose everything.
These are exhausting cycles that aren't even grounded in reality. You're essentially creating them in your own mind, which is the most bewildering aspect of it all.
